The Pastor of the Church at Owens Creek is a member of


The Black Robe Regiment


The “Black Regiment” was a group of patriot-preachers from virtually every protestant denomination

 

located throughout colonial America at the time of America’s fight for independence who courageously

 

preached the Biblical principles of liberty and independence. The moniker stems from the tendency of

 

these patriot-preachers to wear long, black robes in their pulpits. Modern Black Regiment preachers

 

refuse to keep silence over the sins of the nation and will expose those sins publicly be they found in

 

citizens or governors, the common people or the elite bureaucrats. Though most of us no longer wear

 

the long, black robes in our pulpits, we still carry on the heritage of refusing to shun our moral

 

duty to decry the sins of the nation be they in the White House or the farm house.

 


In order to qualify as a Black Regiment pastor, the following criteria must be met:

 

 

1. He is a Bible believer: he believes the Bible is God's holy and authoritative Word.

 

 

2. He is the head of his own home, having his wife and children in subjection to his authority.

 

 

3. He is the spiritual leader and shepherd of his local congregation, not a committee-controlled man.

 

 

4. As a Patriot to his country he is a strong proponent of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and Bill of

 

Rights.

 

 

5. He understands the necessity and integrity of sovereign national borders. And, to the degree that

 

he understands it, has publicly spoken out against amnesty for illegal aliens and the burgeoning North

 

American Union.  He believes those in high places who have through purposed policy contributed to

 

the deaths of border patrolmen and other Patriots protecting our borders should be brought to justice.

 

 

6. He understands freedom of speech and believes that a preacher is a spokesman for God (not the

 

State) and has publicly decried so-called "hate crimes" legislation that would prohibit preachers from

 

preaching Biblical truth regarding homosexuality, the dangers of Islam and other false religions (including

 

protestant heresies).

 

 

7. He has publicly promoted the sanctity of life by preaching the value of humankind created in the

 

image of God and protests the cruel and inhumane treatment of man in human trafficking, abortion, infanticide,

 

euthanasia and assisted suicide.

 

 

8. He has publicly repudiated the unconstitutional policies of a federal bureaucracy regardless of party affiliation in any

 

attempt at or promotion of socialism and the willful destruction of capitalism and erosion of freedom.

 

 

9.  He has publicly resisted "Seeker-Friendly," and "Purpose-Driven," and "Emerging Church" church

 

growth movements.

 

 

10. He believes the church has a responsibility to be the salt and light of the world. That is, that we

 

are to win souls to Christ, and resist Satan in whatever form (spiritual, social, political, cultural, etc.) he

 

reveals himself.

RESOLUTION


for

 

The Elect of the Almighty

 

 

Keep about the work that God has given you, do not flinch because the lion roars; do not

 

stop to stone the devil''s dogs; do not fool away your time chasing the devil''s rabbits. Do

 

your work. Let liars lie, let councils resolve, let the devil do his worst: but see to it that nothing

 

hinders you from fulfilling the work that God has given you to do!

 

 

He has not commanded you to get rich. He has never bidden you to defend your character.

 

He has not set you at work to contradict falsehood about yourself which Satan and his

 

servants may start to peddle. If you do those things you will do nothing else; you will be at

 

work for yourself and not for the Lord.

 

 

Keep at your work. Let your aim be as steady as a star. You may be assaulted, wronged,

 

insulted, slandered, wounded and rejected. (You will not be the first!) But see to it with

 

steadfast determination, with unfaltering zeal, that you pursue the great purpose of your life

 

until you too can say: "I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do..."

 

TIME HOW SHORT

 


Time, with an unweary'd hand,


Pushes round the seasons past;


And in life's frail glass, the sand


Sinks apace, not long to last:


Many, well as you or I,


Who last year assembled thus;


In their silent graves now lie,


Graves will open soon for us!

 


 


Daily sin, and care, and strife,


While the LORD prolongs our breath,

Or a kind of living death:


Wretched they, and most forlorn,


Who no better portion know;


Better ne'er to have been born,


Than to have our all below.

 


 


When constrain'd to go alone,

When the LORD his summons sends,


Earthly comforts lose their pow'r;


Honors, riches, kindred, friends,


Cannot cheer a dying hour!

 


 


Happy souls who fear the LORD!


Time is not too swift for you;


When your Saviour gives the word,


Glad you'll bid the world adieu;


Then he'll wipe away your tears,


Near himself appoint your place;


Swifter fly, ye rolling years,


LORD, we long to see thy face.

Reasons for Commitment to the ''Old Paths'':

 

The "old paths" are found in the Bible. There is widespread departure from these

 

to those "by-path meadows" devised by men. The tendency in our time is to

 

despise the ways and wisdom of former times. Modernism glorifies the present and

 

men are inventing many ways to keep religion "contemporary". I am not against

 

anything contemporary per se, but have no desire to replace the proven message

 

and methods of the Scripture for the sake of pleasing man''s ''contemporary''

 

message and methods.

Regarding the blood of Christ Spurgeon said..."If ever there should come a wretched

 

day when all our pulpits shall be full of modern thought, and the old doctrine of

 

substitutionary sacrifice shall be exploded, then will there remain no word of comfort for the

 

guilty or hope for the despairing. Hushed will be forever those silver notes which now console

 

the living, and cheer the dying; a dumb spirit will possess this sullen world, and no voice of

 

joy will break the blank silence of despair. ...Would you have me silence the doctrine of the

 

blood of sprinkling? ...Shall we be censured if we continually proclaim the heaven-sent

 

message of the blood of Jesus? Shall we speak with bated breath because some affected

 

person shudders at the sound of the word "blood"? or some "cultured" individual rebels at

 

the old-fashioned thought of sacrifice? Nay, verily, we will sooner have our tongue cut out

 

than cease to speak of the precious blood of Jesus Christ."

 

 

OF THE PRIVILEGE OF BELONGING TO A FELLOWSHIP OF BELIEVERS...


Dietrich Bonhoeffer said... "It is not simply to be taken for granted that the Christian has the privilege

 

of living among other Christians.  ...It is by the grace of God that a congregation is permitted to gather

 

visibly in this world to share God's Word and sacrament.  Not all Christians receive this blessing.  The

 

imprisoned, the sick, the scattered lonely, the proclaimers of the Gospel in heathen lands stand alone

 

They know that visible fellowship is a blessing.  They remember, as the Psalmist did, how they went

 

"with the multitude...to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept

 

holyday."  -Psa 42:4

 

 

In view of this truth why does there seem to be such discontent and complaining from so many in the

 

church ABOUT their respective fellowships?  Are we not acting many times like spoiled children not

 

getting our own way.  America has for too long enjoyed the privilege of freedom of worship and

 

multitudes of local churches.  If you are part of an evangelical church with sound doctrine and practice

 

(of which the practice is NEVER perfect) it may be a good thing for you to thank God for it and

 

be a part of the solution to the imperfections of the church rather than complain about

 

them.

 

Listen to what Bonhoeffer says about 'dreamers'...

 

"Innumerable times a whole Christian community has broken down because it had sprung from a wish

 

dream.  The serious Christian, set down for the first time in a Christian community, is likely to bring with

 

him a very definite idea of what Christian life together should be and try to realize it.  But God's grace

 

speedily shatters such dreams.  Just as surely as God desires to lead us to a knowledge of genuine

 

Christian fellowship, so surely must we be overwhelmed by a great disillusionment with others, with

 

Christians in general, and if we are fortunate, with ourselves.  By sheer grace, God will not permit us to

 

live even for a brief period in a dream world.  ...He who loves his dream of a a community more than

 

the Christian community itself becomes a destroyer of the latter, even though his personal intentions

 

may be ever so honest and earnest and sacrificial.  God hates visionary dreaming; it makes the dreamer

 

proud and pretentious.  The man who fashions a visionary ideal of community demands that it be

 

realized by God, by others, and by himself.  He enters the community of Christians with his demands,

 

sets up his own law, and judges the brethren and God Himself accordingly.  He stands adamant, a living

 

reproach to all others in the circle of brethren.  He acts as if he is the creator of the Christian

 

community, as if his dream binds men together. When things do not go his way, he calls the effort a

 

failure.  When his ideal picture is destroyed, he sees the community going to smash.  So he becomes,

 

 

first the accuser of his brethren, then an accuser of God, and finally the despairing accuser of himself."



Isn't it high time that we face the fact that we are not in heaven yet, and any expression of the

 

company of the redeemed is not perfected yet?  Read Philippians 3:13-16
